Orrido di Botri – Nature Reserve

The Orrido di Botri is a spectacular limestone gorge excavated over time by the flow of the Rio Pelago, regulated by the Biodiversity office, Carabinieri Department, former forestry corps of Lucca.
In the summer period it is possible to go up it via a regulated entrance, walking along the bed of the stream.

This naturalistic area was already known, visited and mentioned in Italian and English guides since the first half of the 19th century due to the peculiarity of the geology, flora and fauna.

The reserve, founded in 1971, keeps intact the rarity of its nature, the integrity of the vegetation and the eagle nests along its gorges, overlooking the bed of the stream.

The canyon is open to the public from June to October, entrance accessible by car.

Route: route length 4 km. During the journey it is inevitable to enter the water with your legs. Suitable clothing is required, shorts or swimsuit, gym shoes that can get wet, covers suitable for the temperature. Suitable for ages 8 and up, not recommended for people with physical problems.
