GARFAGNANA FARMHOUSE: Pian di Fiume

FARMHOUSE BAGNI DI LUCCA IN GARFAGNANA

The facility, which lies in a delightful, sunny position on the slopes on the northern bank of the River Lima, has been created by lovingly restoring the ancient mediaeval hamlet of Pian di Fiume, from which it takes its name and whose architecture it faithfully reflects. Its location just 2 km from the historic spa town of Bagni di Lucca places it within easy reach of a large number of villages rich in cultural interest and natural history, all perching on the shady mountains of the Lima Valley.

The estate leads the field in environmental conservation as well, both employing natural materials, such as cork, wood, stone and terracotta, and using energy sources that are in part renewable, wetland for effluent treatment and a rainwater collection system.

The estate, which opened only recently, has several types of organic produce on sale to guests and holds out many farming- and environment-related activities (beekeeping, growing and processing medicinal and ornamental plants and courses in mycology and herbal medicine).

It is a centre for excursions on foot, by mountain bike and on horseback as well, and guests may also take rafting and canoeing courses on the River Lima.
